Industrial Buildings at Yatala

Over the past 10 years, Osborn Lane has assisted Rimco Building Systems with the engineering design of about ten industrial buildings in the the Yatala area. Two of the more interesting examples are shown here.

The tall building with the chimney is a “green” power station. It burns flammible waste, such as waste plant matter, to generate electricity, which is then sold onto the electricity grid. Its output is relatively small, but it is worthwhile since the fuel used would otherwise be dumped. Because the generator hall is about as tall as it is wide, the common portal frame structural system was not suitable, and so a braced tower type system was used.

The squat building is a reinforced concrete pipe factory. It contains some very sophisticated machinery that manufactures reinforced concrete pipes with a minimum of human labour.
